How to Accurately Measure for Your Custom Closet Rod

An accurate measurement is the most important step to ensuring your new custom closet rod installs correctly and provides a high-end, seamless look. Please follow these instructions carefully.

What You'll Need:

A reliable metal measuring tape.
Pen and paper (or your phone's notes app).

Step-by-Step Instructions:

Clear the Space: Remove any old rods or shelving that might obstruct your measuring tape.
Measure Wall-to-Wall: Place the metal end of your tape firmly against the inside surface of one side of the closet. Extend the tape straight across to the opposite inside surface.
Read the Exact Measurement: Read the measurement to the nearest 1/16th of an inch. If your walls aren't perfectly straight, measure at the top, middle, and bottom, then provide us with the smallest of the three numbers.
Double-Check: Write the number down and measure a second time to confirm.

❗️ CRITICAL: Do Not Make Deductions

Provide us with the exact, wall-to-wall inside measurement of your opening.

Our workshop automatically makes a 1/4" (0.25 inch) deduction to accommodate the thickness of the mounting hardware.

Example: If your opening is 36", you will receive a rod cut to 35-3/4".

If you make your own deduction, your rod will arrive too short and will not be secure.

Important Tips for a Perfect Fit:

Measure the Opening, Not an Old Rod: Old rods may have been cut incorrectly or used different hardware. Always measure the physical space.
Maximum Length: Custom TAG Hardware rods are available up to a maximum of 92 inches.
Center Supports: For all spans exceeding 24", we highly recommend a center support bracket to prevent bowing under the weight of clothing.
