How to Accurately Measure for Your Custom Closet Rod

Getting a perfect fit for your new custom closet rod is easy! An accurate measurement is the most important step to ensure your rod installs correctly and looks great. Please follow these simple instructions carefully.

• A reliable metal measuring tape

• A pen and paper (or your phone's notes app)

Step-by-Step Instructions

Using a Measuring Tape (Recommended)

This is the most accurate method for measuring your closet opening.

1. Clear the Space: Remove any old rods, shelves, or clothing that might get in the way of your measuring tape.

2. Measure Wall-to-Wall: Place the metal end of your measuring tape firmly against the inside surface of one side of the closet where the rod will be mounted.

3. Extend and Read: Extend the tape straight across the opening to the opposite inside surface. Make sure the tape measure is level and not sagging in the middle.

4. Read the Exact Measurement: Read the measurement to the nearest 1/16th of an inch. Most tape measures have marks for 1/8, 1/4, and 1/2 inches clearly labeled.

   • Example: Your measurement might be exactly 36 inches, or it could be a fractional measurement like $48\; and\; 1/2$ inches, $32\; and\; 1/4$ inches, or $60\; and\; 7/8$ inches.

5. Write It Down & Double-Check: Write down the exact measurement immediately. For best results, measure a second time to confirm your number is correct.

Crucial Tips for a Perfect Fit

❗️ DO NOT MAKE ANY DEDUCTIONS! Provide us with the exact, wall-to-wall inside measurement of your opening. We will make the necessary small deduction (1$/4\; of\; an$inch) to ensure the rod and its mounting hardware fit perfectly. If you make your own deduction, your rod will be too short.

Measure the Opening, Not an Old Rod: Always measure the physical space itself. An old rod may have been cut incorrectly or used different hardware.

Check if Walls are Straight: For wider openings, it's a good idea to measure at the top, middle, and bottom of the space where the rod will hang. If you get slightly different measurements, provide us with the smallest of the three measurements. This ensures the rod will not be too long to fit.

Double-Check Your Reading: Look closely at the fraction marks on your tape measure. Mistaking $5/8$ for $3/4$ can make a difference!
